Adam, Adam, Adam the small crowd usually chants in a cheerful manners to support him, as all of they want him to make it; which of course, is to win the competition. He took the challenge to eat food; that seemed almost impossible for many normal people like you or me, who have normal appetite. But Adam Richman admits, he is a normal man with unusual appetite. I hope, just like me, many of you, do love to watch this program on TLC, on man vs food.
But for me, when I watch this program, I am not much interested in what he eats and how the food taste. More than anything, I am more interested to see him making it, even at times, when his face wears a telltale look that, he is not going to make it. Then the crowd cheers him from all sides of the restaurants. More than once, he had admitted it, in front of camera its the cheering crowd that helped him make it as a winner, than the food on the plate which seemed hard to gulp down.
Recently, I have been more interested to know the power of human brains and its capacity to do exactly, when it hears the words and starts acting on after hearing the spoken words, on the same manner.
Why is that ?
Dr. Paul Yonggi Cho, who is very well known religious leader in Christian circle and powerful international speaker too, when he writes in his book, The Fourth Dimension. “The spoken words has power, and when you release that word, it is the word, and not you, who performs miracles.” This line somewhat quench my thirst to find answer in this matter.
How spoken words makes the whole difference in a person’s life, who keep hearing the words repeatedly ? If one is encouraged in proper manner, the person will achieve the expected result, I mean exactly as expected; however if one is doubted for his/her capability for long, they are sure to stumble in the process. But if its the negative feedback, how its impact will work on the whole mass is what has the power to force me think hard.
Some time back, as I was watching a talk show, an eminent economist Sujeev Shakya was the guest then. He then, remarked while answering a question that, it's really been about fifty sixty years here in Nepal, we had not seen a political stability. As an individual, I am least interested in political matter, therefore that revelation was something, I found very interesting to remember. And with that, I came to know the true impact of echos of spoken words in a real sense, because reality of it was our nation's poor condition and overall performance for so long.
Just a month ago, it really had not even been a week, when Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi had taken the position of Prime Minister newspapers and Facebook post were already full of negative comments about him and the people he chose as his cabinet members or in his advisory team. How come a newly appointed politician, who was selected from out of the track to free a nation from a deadlock condition [judicial system] can be judged just in a week’s time, to his full potential. Was not that tool short time even to open anyone mouth to say he is good or bad ?
Most of the time newspapers and other media mediums are full of negative stories about politicians, but what I can't be ignored that, journalist, reporters, scribes think tanks including columnists and cartoonists are doing what they do best; to slap politicians. Now I see only the echo of what is being said for so long and how can I expect better situation here ?
In reality, politicians are there in the office only for short term but journalists and media person are there for more than thirty years doing the same work yet not being able to change society, even an inch with their news and views. What can not be ignored that they still keep blaming politicians for everything that goes wrong in our society.
Ironically, there are more journalists, media persons, and think tanks in a country than politicians, yet why nothing is changing in my country ? Forget about country, because for a country to change, our society must change first, drastically; only then, things do change in a nation. Why they are not changing society first with their powerful pen ? instead why they are focusing solely on politics and blaming it all to politicians ? Journalists and media person who cover and focus only politics, and do not touch other areas of the society are pure status quoist, and opportunist; a scar in the name of journalists.
Well, understood, there is no second opinion that, politicians are the hated bunch of people across the globe, yet world has prospered under such politician’s leadership too. Because the growth of a nation do not entirely depend politics alone, as presumed here in my country. Then, why the good bunch of intellect group here in my country, is blaming it all to politicians ? Here people blame politicians even for a flood, and no newspaper or channel tell us that, politicians are not a rainmaker.
I am saying this based on what scanty news, I read on newspapers, see the Facebook post from seasoned journalists and reporters and sometimes I watch on TV. I also get a chance to hear those, who read and watch news most of the time. Not surprisingly, so frustrated and hopeless about my country’s future.
Covering politics only for newspaper or news channels is de-focusing from other issues and therefore, blaming politicians is purely misleading mass, because the bigger pie of journalists, reporters and media are focus digging only negative sides of society forget about just politics. Of course, mainly its politics being the dirty game and politicians being ugly players of such dirty game. But the states fourth power is not working on the better side of our society, I mean the other sides of the society. Every society has its flaws and strength. Why focus or waste time only on flaws ?
My society indulge in blame game culture ! as if blaming is an ornament and wearing it will give us a true pride.
When will my country's intellectual group learn to vent their frustration and disappointment in the same way and otherwise ? well, the answer is very simple when journalist, reporters, think tanks and media persons are keen to learn about it. The big question is, do they know about it or have refused to learn about it.
Every time I see CNN or BBC their news and views force me to think hard; news does not necessary mean busting scam and blaming politicians for everything that goes wrong. Sometimes we need to understand the deeper lying reasons to find the answer that serve us for long term and not just for short term. You must be knowing this, Adam Richman is an american, just close your eyes for some time and think hard and try to understand what I am saying here as see the real difference between we and Americans as an example.
Anuradha Koirala and Pushpa Basnet was made heroes by CNN, Dr. Sanduk Ruit and Mahabir Pun was awarded international award like Ramon Magsaysay Award and others. Before this I have never ever read any news about these heroes, except Pushpa Basnet in the newspaper I read regularly. I also do not know about anything, they have own such award here locally for their praiseworthy contribution to our society.
Therefore, I strongly believe, my country really needs a new generation journalists, reporters and media persons and think tanks, who can make an ordinary simple man like Adam Richman to achieve something unthinkable with the echos they make.
Echo sure has a power to surprise us, we hear back what we say, in the first place, the only difference is, it comes in a different sound. Therefore, some times its really hard to believe; in fact echo is our words.
